We are happy to announce that the 2018 RAFFCA Aerobatic Competition will be held on Saturday
1st September 2018 at RAF Scampton.
The competition will again be run as a British Aerobatics ‘Beginners Day’. No aerobatic experience
is needed, although competitors are normally required to hold a current licence (LAPL(A), or PPL
with SEP Rating). Exceptionally, candidates who have completed most of a LAPL/PPL course
may be considered on recommendation from the club CFI. Each competitor will be paired up with
an aerobatic instructor and will fly twice during the day. The first flight will be a training sortie, and
the second will be scored by a team of qualified judges in order to determine the competition
results.
The Tony Ayre Blade will be awarded to the highest placed pilot.
Clubs are each invited to nominate one member plus reserves for entry into this competition. The
event is open to all RAFFCA members, however in order to promote this event within RAF Sport,
clubs are invited to consider currently serving (regular or reserve) RAF personnel as the primary
candidate should a suitable and keen individual be identified. Should you not have any suitable
candidates at all within your club, please do not be afraid to say so, in order that the place may be
offered to a reserve from elsewhere. I anticipate that once again we are likely to oversubscribed.
Competitors should not have competed in this event more than once before, should not have competed at a wider British Aerobatics event in a previous year, or have competed at a level above Beginners/ Club.
The intention is that there will once again be a RAFFCA fly-in accompanying this event, although it
is possible that as in previous years we will request airborne arrivals to take place on the Friday
due to an early start to aerobatic flying on Saturday. Where available, Service accommodation will
be offered to competitors and officials as the first priority.
Competitors may enter the RAFFCA Competition up to twice. After that, it’s time to move onto the wider competition scene!
Competitors who have competed at British Aerobatics competitions at Club level in 2018 will be accepted, but not those who have
competed at or above that level in a previous year.
If you are interested in taking part in this event contact Dave Hall via your RAF Flying Club OIC/Rep no later than Friday 29th June. Please also provide a few words of justification regarding your nomination in order to better inform the Exec Committee should competitor numbers become a factor. Should club nominations not have been received by the specified date, the place may be offered to a reserve nomination from another club.
Good luck to all those that apply and happy flying!
